2024 GSO Concerto Competition
Eirene Ko on violin
Studying under Joy Brown Wiener for the past 10 years, Eirene plays in the Memphis Youth Symphony Orchestra, and is Concertmaster of the GPAC Youth Symphony Orchestra. Eirene also plays in her high school orchestra, where she is a rising Junior. Accolades include TNMEA All State in 2023 and 2024, as well as participating in All-West for 4 years and placing 3rd chair in 2023. Eirene's outside interests include cofounding a service organization at her school to support activities for seniors. Within that effort, she incorporates her violin playing, where Eirene performs as a soloist or a member of small ensembles at the retirement home. Eirene also is a member of the Key Club, the Tri-M Honors Society, and volunteers at an animal shelter. |
Ella Liu on flute
Ella first became interested in music when she started playing piano at age 5, and has studied flute under Mrs. Myung Kim for the past 4 years, In 2024 Ella came in first place in the 2024 Beethoven Club Young Artists Competition in the Woodwinds/Brass-Junior B category, the US International Open Music Competition (Junior Flute), and in 2023 she was a winner of the GPAC Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) TN Junior Woodwind Competition, as well as winning first chair in the All-West Blue Band in the flute section. She has also won numerous awards for performance on piano. As a rising sophomore at her high school, Ella's interests outside of music include being an artist and writer, winning keys in the Scholastic Art and Scholastic Writing Contests, and has medaled in the WordSmith Writing Contest. For fun Ella runs, swims and enjoys time with friends or traveling with her family. |
Christina Moon on flute
While Christina has studied flute for the past 4 years with Mrs. Myung Kim, she started her musical career playing piano at the age of 3. Now a rising 10th grader, in 2023 and 2024 she placed in the International Grande Music Competition twice, the Beethoven Club Young Artists Competition, All State and All West competitions in Tennessee all while being a member of the orchestra at her school and participating in the GPAC Youth Symphony Orchestra. In high school, Christina works on the staff of her school's yearbook and is Secretary on her student council. Outside of school and music, Christina loves her dog Milo, and enjoys eating Chinese and Korean foods. |
