2022 GSO Concerto Competition
Cindy Liu, Flutist
Cindy Liu, a rising high school Junior in Germantown, Tennessee, has studied with Ms. Myung E. Kim for seven years. Cindy plays flute in the Germantown Youth Symphony and won the Note Award for the 2022 Lagrange Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. She was the winner of the 2022 TMTA (Tennessee Music Teachers Association) solo woodwind competition, first-place winner of the 2018 Beethoven Club Young Artist Competition, and represented Tennessee for the 2018 MTNA (Music Teachers’ National Association) division audition. Cindy has achieved the first chair of the All West Tennessee Band since 2019 and is a 2022 National YoungArts Award Winner. Cindy completed the 2021 Tennessee Governor’sSchool for the Arts and won the Solo Competition, performing Concerto for Flute and Orchestra by Otar Gordeli. Along with music, Cindy is a competitive swimmer, recently placing 1st in the 200 Backstroke at the 2022 LSU Tristan Vessel Invitational, and a swim instructor at theGermantown Athletic Club. |
Jack Feng, Violinist
Jack started studying violin with Mrs. Joy Brown Wiener at the age of 5 and has been studying with her for the past eight years. He's won the 2021 Beethoven Club Young Artists Competition, Junior B Strings, the 2020 Memphis Youth Symphony (MYSO) Solo Competition, and was the Grand Prize Winner in the 2019 Mid-South Fair Youth Talent Competition. The youngest member in the Memphis Youth Symphony Orchestra during 2021-22 season, Jack was seated on first stand in the 2nd violin section. In the WTSBOA All-West Middle School String Orchestra program in 2021 and 2022, he was 3rd and 2nd chair, respectively. In addition to musical competition, Jack is also competitive in art, math, robotics and geography. Jack enjoys creative activities like art and writing. He also enjoys learning about the world and participates in his school's Quizbowl program. During the 2021-22 school year, his team placed 33rd at the national level. |
