Joan Gilbert, PianistConcert pianist Joan Gilbert performs extensively in the United States and Europe as a soloist, in recital and with orchestra, and as a chamber musician. She has recorded for the Musical Heritage Society and for National Public Radio. A founding member of four piano trios (Philadelphia, Bellarmine, Gagliano, and Memphis), she has performed in music festivals in Edinburgh, Siena, the Canary Islands, and the Tetons. Ms. Gilbert has been particularly closely connected with the Prague International Chamber Music Festival< serving as administrative director in addition to her participation as performer and member of the chamber music faculty. Joan Gilbert is Professor of Music and Coordinator of the Keboard Area in the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis. A recipient of the University of Memphis Distinguished Teaching Award, Ms. Gilbert frequently travels to give master classes in piano performance and to adjudicate piano competitions. Ms. Gilbert's Major teachers include Sascha Gorodnitzki, Eduard Steuermann, Felix Galimir, and Walter Trampler at the Juillard School of Music, Guido Agosti at Rome's Santa Cecilia Conservatory, and Jack Radunsky at Oberlin College, where she was a National Merit Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
