Susanna Perry Gilmore, ViolinSusanna Perry Gilmore, Concertmaster of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, also teaches violin and plays in the Ceruti String Quartet at the University of Memphis. In addition to her accomplishments as an orchestral and chamber musician, she has performed as a solosit on the Memphis Symphony's Masterworks and Chamber Orchestra series and on the Artists Ascending Series in Memphis.Ms. Gilmore received her Bachelor's degree in Music at Oxford University and spent a year of post graduate study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she studied with violinist Yfrah Neaman. She received her Master's in Violin Performance at the New England Conservatory in Boston under the instruction of James Buswell. Prior to her studies in England, Ms. Gilmore studied with Christian Teal at the Blair School of Music and Mimi Zweig at Indiana University. Before arriving in Memphis, Ms. Gilmore spent two years as a member of the Rackham String Quartet. With the RSQ, she not only maintained an active touring schedule, but also instituted a new strings program in Monterey County, CA., and offered educational performances nationwide for thousands of children. Ms. Gilmore continues her work in music education through collaborative efforts with the Memphis Arts Council and the Germantown Performing Arts Center. Ms. Gilmore's summer activities have included fellowships at the Tanglewood Music Festival, Norfolk Music Festival, and Sarasota Chamber Music Festival. For the past two summers, she has been an instructor at the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts and recently performed as First Violinist at the Washington Island Music Festival in Wisconsin. She is currently a violin mentor at the Hot Springs Music Festival. When not working as a classical violinist, Ms. Gilmore plays the Irish fiddle with her husband in the band Planet Reel.
