The Germantown Symphony Orchestra's final concert of the season will be a  traditional "Spring" concert.  The orchestra will open with Otto Nicolai's charming and brilliant overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor.  Memphis violinist Basil Alter will join us for Max Bruch's Violin Concerto in G minor, and the concert will close with Robert Schuman's Symphony No. 1 in B♭ Major, his "Spring" Symphony.  Now a professional violinist, as a student, Alter was a winner of the GSO's annual Young Artist Concerto Competition in 2018.
Hailed as a “teenage virtuoso” in his Commercial Appeal profile, violinist BASIL ALTER began violin lessons with his mother at age 3. Beginning schooling at University of Memphis’ Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, where he was the violinist of the Contemporary Chamber Players and concertmaster of the schools symphonic and opera orchestras, he later moved to New York to study at Manhattan School of Music, where he was a rotating concertmaster of the school orchestras.

Alter was featured in Jewish Scene Magazine’s article “Basil Alter’s World of Music,” and has been a frequent guest performer at Temple Emanu-El of New York, most recently performing on instruments from the traveling exhibit "Violins of Hope." Upcoming spring performances include appearances with the Germantown Symphony (TN) and the Delta Symphony (AR), appearances at Calvary Episcopal Church and Temple Israel, as well as recitals across the US. basilalter.com
