Pops in the Park and Perfect Picnic

Kiwanis Pavilion at Municipal Park, Exeter Road

Pack a picnic and watch the sunset while enjoying a great performance by the Germantown Symphony Orchestra.  The free concert features selections of jazz, broadway show tunes, pops and light classics. The choirs of Germantown and Houston high schools will perform with the orchestra.  No rain date.  Sponsored by the City of Germantown.

Young Artists Concert

GSO Young Artists Concert
October 29, 2011 at 8:00  p.m. at GPAC 

Soloists include Molly Wilkins-Reed, viola, performing the first movement of Hoffmeister's Viola Concerto, Lydia Wilkins-Reed, cello, performing the first movement of Haydn's Cello Concerto in D major, and Michael Klyce, performing the second movement of Max Bruch's Violin Concerto in G minor.  The concert opens with Dvorak's Carnival Overture and, in keeping with the spirit of the Halloween season, concludes the concert with Camille Saint-Saens’ Danse Macabre.

The Germantown Chorus, under the direction of Rick Marshall, will join Ronald Vernon and the GSO in a festive program of Christmas, Hanukkah, and seasonal favorites. Highlights include a rousing version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” and the traditional holiday sing-along, plus the perfect mix of new selections and many of your holiday favorites.

Soprano Paul Newberry joins the GSO to create an unforgettable afternoon of music which will include such classics as ““Je veux vivre” (Juliet’s waltz), Verdi’s “caro nome” from Rigoletto, Ponchielli’s “Dance of the Hours” from La Gioconda to beautifully arranged spirituals. The GSO will also perform  Morton Gould’s Symphonette No. 4 (Rhumba, Tango, Guaracha, Conga) and Aaron Copeland’s John Henry.

Tribute to Franz Liszt featuring

Ian Hominick, piano

Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 8:00 at GPAC


Ian Hominic, Associate Professor of Piano at the University of Mississippi, joins the GSO in celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt with a performance of his Piano Concerto No. 1 in Eb major.  The concert opens with the Fra Diavolo Overture of Daniel-Francois Auber, and concludes with Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, "Eroica" in Eb major.

Classical Concert featuring

Marta Slubowska, violin

Violinist Maria Slubowska will perform Camille Saint-Saens’  Violin Concerto No. 3 in B minor, Op. 6 with the GSO.  The concert also includes W. A. Mozart’s  Cosi fan Tutte Overture,  Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E minor.
